Archives Inside Out, or, What Happens When You Let an Artist Loose in the Archives
In 2007/08, the City of Winnipeg Archives hosted local filmmaker Paula Kelly as its Artist-in-Residence with support from the Winnipeg Arts Council’s Public Art Program. During her time at the Archives, Ms Kelly created three short documentary films using textual, photographic, audio and visual records held by the City, as well as creating a number of new records to capture the stories of residents and retired City employees. Collectively titled Souvenirs, these films reveal three dominant themes in Winnipeg history: Sand and Stone (6 min.) – the City under construction; Watermarks (11 min.) – the City in its environment; Waiting for the Parade (7 min.) – the City imagining itself. Join filmmaker Paula Kelly and City Archivist Jody Baltessen to hear about this project and to view the film.
