What are your "Consumer Consequences"?

We've all heard about our "ecological footprint" and the need to do something about it. But have you actually seen it? The Redefining Progress website has a great new interactive "game" that allows users to see their "consumer consequences."

The interface is fun (you get to choose your [rather goofy] appearance), but then things get serious as you select your energy consumption, transportation modes and diet. With each page, the landscape you "live" in changes, with new developments, new pollutants and new degradation sliding into the scene. By the end you learn how many Earths would be needed to keep everyone on the planet as happy as you are.

The drawbacks? It's very Americano-centric -- and as a result the metrics are compared to averages in American jurisdictions. A similar problem may be found at the Global Footprint Network's calculator -- it only offers the U.S. and Australia as possible countries of residence!  It does however show the graphic results of your lifestyle choices.

For a Canadian equivalent, check out the Royal Saskatchewan Museum's Ecological Footprint Calculator. However, it is much less sophisticated and offers no real visual impression of your impact.

Does anyone know of a more visually impressive Canadians calculator?
